Type locality. — N Borneo, Sabah, Danum Valley Field Centre N of Lahad Datu .
Type material.— Holotype ♂ from the type locality, lowland primary forest, ground traps baited with dung, 1991, Andrew Davis; paratypes: 5 ♀, same data ; 6 ♂, 16 ♀, from pitfall traps in untouched primary forest; 1 jv from pitfall trap in forest which was logged selectively 12 years earlier, 1989, Th. Borghouts .
Other material.— None.
Diagnosis.— Distinct from the other species by the pattern on the abdomen, in the male palp the single tibial apophysis and the large sinuated conductor, and in the female the large spermathecae in the shape of a heart.
Description.— MALE. Total length 5.50 mm. Carapace length 2.35 mm, width 1.50 mm, height 0.70 mm, width head 0.90 mm at level of PER, width eye group 0.75 mm; abdomen length 3.15 mm, width 1.15 mm. Leg length: leg I 9.70 mm (2.40-3.50-2.30-1.50); leg II 7.45 mm (1.90-2.75-1.65-1.15); leg III 6.45 mm (1.75-2.00-1.65-1.05); leg IV 9.50 mm (2.50-3.00-2.50-1.50), palp 0.65-0.35- 0.30-0.85 mm. Colour and sculpture as in the other species, lobes of carapace rounded. Abdomen pattern similar to that in T. politus ( fig. 797 View Figs 796 - 801 ), white diagonal band narrower and no dorsal transverse stripes. Spination: femur I 2 pl, tibia I 10 pv, 9 rv, tibia II 9-10 pv, 8rv, metatarsus I 6 pv, 5rv, metatarsus II 5 pv, 4rv. Abdominal dorsal and ventral scutum cut straight posteriorly, the distal 1/2 bare, collar with 5 ridges. Male palp figs 828-829 View Figs 824 - 827 , tibial apophysis with concave upper margin, tip densely covered with stiff setae and some other specialised setae, bulb apically with a relatively large chitinous conductor with sinuated tip.
FEMALE. Length 5.25 mm. Carapace length 2.25 mm, width 1.45 mm, height 0.60 mm, head width 0.80 mm, eye group width 0.65 mm, abdomen length 3.00 mm, width 1.50 mm, epigyne 0.45 mm wide, 0.40 mm long. Leg lengths: leg I 9.50 mm (2.35-3.40-2.25- 1.50), leg II 7.20 mm (1.85-2.60-1.65-1.10), leg III 6.00 mm (1.60-1.90-1.50-1.00), leg IV 8.80 mm (2.40-2.50-2.40-1.50), palp 0.75-0.25-0.45- 0.75 mm. Pattern of abdomen as in male, dorsal surface dark grey, ventral post-genital surface white. Spine formula as in the male. Abdomen: collar a little shorter than in male. Epigyne fig. 830 View Figs 830 - 831 , vulva fig. 831 View Figs 830 - 831 , large openings of vulva plugged in most specimens, leading through 2 sinuosities to the large curved spermathecae, bursae apparent in dorsal view.
Distribution. — Only known from the type locality.
Etymology. — After the collector, Andrew Davis, coleopterologist who was working at Field Station during my visit to Danum and was most helpful in various ways.
Note. — A female found in Indonesia, SE Kalimantan, Aranio district, primary forest of Gunung Pisang, differs from the species described above by the widely separate epigynal openings; the first part of the insemination ducts are narrow and abruptly set off towards spermatheca.
