Type locality. Tenerife, Canary Islands. Lectotype: 1„ [Téneriffe] [499] [Coll. Chevrolat], NR (Coll. Schönherr ex Coll. Cheverolat), Stockholm. Paralectotype: 1„ partially damaged by the pin [Téneriffe] [834] [Col. Chevrolat] [Type]. NR (Coll. Chevrolat), Stockholm.

Remarks. Type species by monotypy of the subgenus Amphora Wollaston, 1864 (non Cumberland, 1826) and of the subgenus Guanchotrox Alonso Zarazaga and Lyal, 1999 (replacement name). It is a common insect in the highlands of the island above 2000 m altitude, for instance, in Las Cañadas.
