Megophthalmidia Dziedzicki View in CoL View at ENA
Megophthalmidia Dziedzicki 1889: 404 View in CoL , 525 (as Megophtalmidia View in CoL , pp. 526, 532). Type-species, M. zugmeyeriae Dziedzicki (mon.) = crassicornis (Curtis).
M. divergens Edwards 1932: 141 View in CoL . Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Bom Retiro. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 99 View FIGURES 88–99 )
Notes. The type series included only the male holotype. The labels of the holotype are as follows: “S. Catarina / Bom Retiro / I.29 [hw]” // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ Megophthalmidia / divergens Edw. [hw] / F.W. Edwards 193[pr]1[hw]” // Brasil. / Th. Borgmeier. / B.M. / 1931- 577” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Megophthalmidia / divergens [hw] Edwards / det. J.E. Chainey, 1995 [pr]” // “BMNH(E) # / 254325”. The type is in good condition and the terminalia has not been dissected.
M. edwardsiana Lane 1954d: 106 View in CoL , fig. 1 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 100 View FIGURES 100–112 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype, supposedly sixteen male and one female paratypes, of which the holotype, the allotype, and actually four male and three female paratypes are at the NHM , as well as two paratypes with the abdomen missing. The labels of the types are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 11.7.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // Megophthalmidia / edwardsiana [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]2[hw]” / “BMNH(E) # 254330”. The holotype is in bad condition, with both wings, the head, and the legs beyond the coxae missing. Some of the paratypes have the wings or the male terminalia mounted on microslides ( BMNH (E) # 254331-40) GoogleMaps .
M. freemani Lane 1954d: 108 View in CoL , fig. 2 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 101 View FIGURES 100–112 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype and a female allotype, both of which are at the NHM . The labels of the types are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 9.7.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // [male terminalia dissected and mounted between microslides attached to a pinned card] / / Megophthalmidia / freemani [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]2[hw]” / “BMNH(E) # 254326”. The holotype is in very bad condition. The head, legs beyond the coxae and both wings are missing. The abdomen was removed and mounted together with the terminalia. The allotype is in better condition, with the wings and most legs preserved ( BMNH (E) # 254327) GoogleMaps .
M. nigra Freeman 1951: 82 View in CoL , fig. 291 (wing). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Bariloche. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 102 View FIGURES 100–112 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype, a male and two female paratypes, all of which are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Bariloche / 28.xi–1.xii.1926.” // “ Argentina / Río Negro / F. & M. The holotype and the paratypes ( BMNH (E) # 254322-4) are in excellent condition and the male terminalia has not been dissected .
M. plaumanni Lane 1954d: 109 View in CoL . Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 103 View FIGURES 100–112 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype and a female allotype, both of which are at the NHM . The labels of the types are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 20.8.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // Megophthalmidia / plaumanni [hw] / det.
