Eudicrana Loew View in CoL View at ENA

Eudicrana Loew 1869: 142 View in CoL . Type-species, E. ombumbrata Loew (mon.).

E. basinerva Freeman 1951: 49 View in CoL , figs. 99 (♂ terminalia), 302 (wing). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Casa Pangue. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 21 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, five male and two female paratypes, of which the holotype, four male and two female paratypes are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “ Eudicrana / basinerva [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Casa Pangue / 4–10.xii.1926.” // “S. Chile / Llanquihue prov. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 253792”. The entire abdomen of the holotype has been removed. Of the six paratypes ( BMNH (E) #253793-8), one has a wing removed and mounted on a separate microslide preparation attached to the pin. Another wing has been mounted on a separate slide in the NHM Diptera slide collection .

E. claripennis Edwards 1931: 258 View in CoL . Type-locality: Peru, Lima, Verrugas. Holotype ♀, NHM.

( Figure 22 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. The type series included only the female holotype. The labels with the holotype are: [the female terminalia dissected and mounted on a pinned acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Verrugas / Lima Peru [pr].28[hw] / R.C. Shannon” // “B.M. 1929-185” [hw] // “ Eudicrana / claripennis Edw [hw] /F.W. Edwards / det. 1930 [pr]” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Eudicrana / claripennis [hw] / Edwards / det. J.E. Chainey 1995 [pr]”// “BMNH(E) # / 253804”. The holotype had the abdomen removed from the thorax; the terminalia has been dissected and mounted over a plastic stripe with the type, the rest of the abdomen glued to the triangular card with the rest of the specimen.

E. pallida Freeman 1951: 51 View in CoL , fig. 101 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: “ Chile ”. Holotype ♂, NHM.

Notes. The type series included only the male holotype. The labels with the holotype are: “ Eudicrana View in CoL / pallida View in CoL [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ Clari ” [handwritten on a piece of light blue paper] // “BMNH(E) # / 253803”// Eudicrana View in CoL / sp.n. [hw] / F.W. Edwards. / det. 1928.”. There is no indication of the locality with the pinned holotype and it appears as “ Chile ” in the original description. Only the terminalia are removed and mounted.

E. similis Freeman 1951: 50 View in CoL , fig. 100 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Chile, Valparaiso, Marga-Marga. Holotype ♂, NHM.

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, two male and one female paratypes, and all designated types are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “ Eudicrana View in CoL / similis View in CoL [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to a pinned acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ Chile / Marga-Marga / ix.1929. / F. Jaffuel / B.M. 1929–480.” // “ Diff. fr. claripennis View in CoL / lat. scapel seq. yellow , / 8 S yellow , lobus / much more pointed. ” // “BMNH(E) # / 253799”. The terminalia of the holotype is dissected and mounted on a plastic stripe. The three paratypes are at the NHM ( BMNH (E) # 253800-2), one of which has the terminalia dissected and mounted .

E. vittata Edwards 1931: 257 View in CoL . Type-locality: Peru, Junín, Colonia, Perené. Ref.— Lane 1960: 383, fig. 8 (♂ terminalia). Holotype ♀, NHM.

( Figure 23 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. The type series included only the female holotype. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Colonia, Perené / Junín, Peru / 16.7.1928 / R.C. Shannon [hw] // B.M. / 1929.185 // “ Eudicrana / vittata Edw. [hw] /F.W. Edwards / det. 1930 [pr]” // [abdomen in a pinned microvial]” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Eudicrana / vittata [hw] / Edwards / det. J.E. Chainey 1995 [pr]”// “BMNH(E) # / 253805”. The holotype has the entire abdomen removed from the thorax, now in a microvial, pinned together with the rest of the type; both wings, as well as one foreleg, one midleg, and one hindleg are present.
