Notes
Along with B. sect. Australes ( Tebbitt 2020), this section is unique among those found in Peru in that it has been revised in the light of phylogenetic evidence ( Moonlight & Jara-Muñoz 2017). As currently circumscribed, the section includes all South American species with an asymmetrical, terminal inflorescence and an indumentum of glandular hairs. Most species are endemic to northern South America but the range of B. buddleiifolia reaches as far south as southern Peru.
