Mickelia nicotianifolia (Sw.) R.C.Moran, Labiak & Sundue, Brittonia View in CoL 62(4): 347. 2010.
= Bolbitis nicotianifolia (Sw.) Alston, Bull. Misc. Inform., Kew 1932 View in CoL (7): 310. 1932.
Range: —Antilles, Guatemala to the Guianas and Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial and hemiepiphytic, climbing on the bases of tree trunks, in humid forests; to 600(–1050) m.
Notes: —Plants with simple leaves have cuneate to decurrent blade bases, unlike the truncate to subcordate bases of Bolbitis pandurifolia . Mickelia pergamentacea (Maxon) R.C.Moran, Labiak & Sundue , from Mexico to Peru, is likely to occur in northern Bolivia. It differs from M. nicotianifolia by having soft, translucent, light brown rhizome scales (vs. firm, opaque, dark brown), ovate lateral pinnae that are widest at or below the middle and that are usually broader on the basiscopic side (vs. broadly lanceolate to elliptic, widest at the middle, equilateral).
Mickelia oligarchica (Baker) R.C.Moran, Labiak & Sundue, Brittonia View in CoL 62(4): 350. 2010. = Bolbitis oligarchica (Baker) Hennipman, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 65(1): 30. 1975.
Range: — Nicaragua to Panama, Andes from Colombia to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP), western Brazil.
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests, often on rocks; 400–1700 m. The sterile blades are often oriented horizontally and trap fallen organic matter at the juncture of the two lateral pinnae and the terminal segment. The organic matter provides a rooting substrate for the developing bud.
