Ctenitis ampla (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Ching, Sunyatsenia View in CoL 5: 240. 1940.
= Dryopteris ampla (Humb & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen. Pl. View in CoL 2: 812. 1891.
= Ctenitis ampla (Poepp. ex Spreng.) C.V.Morton, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 59(2): 66. 1969.
= Ctenitis sloanei (Poepp. ex Spring) C.V.Morton, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 59(2): 66. 1969.
Range: — U.S.A. (Florida); Antilles; southern Mexico to Venezuela to northwestern Argentina. In Bolivia, known from BE, CH, CO, LP, and SC.
Ecology: —Locally fairly common; terrestrial in semihumid forests; 200–1300(–2150) m.
Notes: —A detailed taxonomic study of the C. ampla / sloanei complex is needed, but C. sloanei (Poepp. ex Spreng.) C.V.Morton is now considered synonymous with C. ampla by Viveros et al. (2018). They have been said to differ by the indusia conspicuous and subpersistent in C. ampla (vs. lacking or minute in C. sloanei ) and by the veins and costules eglandular in C. ampla (vs. veins and often costules with minute yellowish glands in C. sloanei ). Two specimens from Depto. Beni have been annotated as C. aff. ampla by Viveros: Garcia et al. 2172 (LPB, UC), Paniagua 4226 (UC); they are less scaly and less hairy than typical. Kessler 12250 (UC) is atypical in having minute hairs on the sporangial capsules.
