Additional material examined. TURKEY: one female, Rize prov., south-east Çaml i shem s in, small streams on road Ayder – Libler Gölü , ca. 40°56′ N, 41°14′ E, 1600–1650 m, 12 August 1992, P. Mazzoldi leg. ( HFCB) GoogleMaps   .

Measurements. Body length: 3.25–3.50 mm (mean value 3.40 mm, holotype 3.30 mm), width: 1.45–1.65 mm (mean value 1.58 mm, holotype 1.50 mm).

Description. Body flat, elongate and subparallel ( Figure 3B View Figure 3 ), similar to that of nominotypical subspecies, but elytra even more tapering to apex, with maximum width close to basal third of elytra. Elytra narrowed also to base of pronotum so pronoto-elytral angle is more distinct than in nominotypical subspecies.

Elytra with two slightly distinct punctured lines on disc. Punctation between puncture lines comprising smaller and sparser punctures than in nominotypical subspecies. Distance between punctures more than double their diameter.

Legs: protibiae and mesotibiae narrow basally, then slightly curved on ventral side and broadened to apex.

Male: dorsal surface shiny. Claws of fore tarsi only slightly hooked. Median lobe of aedeagus in ventral view ( Figure 2C View Figure 2 ) with apex shorter than in nominotypical subspecies. In lateral view, median lobe only weakly inflexed, apex short, curved upward. Paramere as in Figure 2D View Figure 2 .

Female: pronotum slightly broader than in male. Microreticulation of elytra more distinct than in males so surface subopaque.

Differential diagnosis. The new subspecies differs from nominotypical subspecies by the oval elytra tapering strongly to apex and slightly to base, sparser and finer punctation of elytra, protibiae and mesotibiae with sinuation on ventral side, and shape of median lobe. Apex of median lobe short and curved upwards in H. a. koksali ssp. nov., compared with long and nearly straight in H. a. anatolicus   .

Etymology. The new subspecies is dedicated to our friend Ömer Köksal Erman (Erzurum, Turkey), a specialist on Turkish Dytiscidae   .

Habitat. Collected among gravel in small temporary streams in a mountain area (700–2400 m above sea level) in north-eastern Turkey.

Distribution. Known from several localities in north-eastern Turkey (Artvin, Erzurum and Rize provinces) ( Figure 6 View Figure 6 ).
