Exochomoscirtes meghalayensis sp. nov.

( Figs. 14G View FIGURE 14 , 62 View FIGURE 62 )

Type material. Holotype, male ( NHM): “NE INDIA, MEGHALAYA / SW of CHERRAPUNJEE / 25°13’– 14’ N 91°40’ E, 900m / L. Dembický leg., 1–24.v.2005 ” [printed label]; “BMNH {E} / 2006-48 / L. Dembicky ” [printed label] . Paratype. Male ( NHM): same data as holotype .

Diagnosis. Resembling Exochomoscirtes arunachalensis sp. nov., but elytra entirely brownish black, and the body slightly shorter and less elongated. Certain identification is possible only on the basis of the morphology of the male genitalia: parameres with numerous small denticles on inner sides of apical portions; penis relatively large, trifid apically.

Description. Holotype, male. Body oval, TL/EW 1.2, somewhat flattened, covered with black setae. Head brownish black, pronotum dark brown, elytra brownish black. Ventrum brown, legs yellowish-brown with the exception of metafemora and metatibiae which are dark brown. Mouthparts and antennae yellowish, antennomeres 1–3 yellow, remaining brownish.

Head covered with small and relatively sparse punctures, punctures separated by ca. 2.0 diameters. Eyes big, protuberant; head 1.7 X wider than interocular space. Antennae filiform. Antennomeres 2 and 3 of subequal lengths, antennomere 3 slightly shorter, antennomere 4 as long as antennomeres 2 and 3 combined. Palpomeres of maxillary palpi moderately widened.

Pronotum slightly convex, covered with subtle punctation, punctures small and shallow, separated by ca. 2.0–3.0 diameters, anterolateral corners obtuse, slightly projecting anteriorly; lateral margins straight; posterolateral corners almost right-angled; posterior margin subtrapezoidal, with complete margination along basal margin; PW/PL 2.9. Scutellum punctured as on pronotum, equilaterally triangular. Angle between pronotum and elytra not marked in dorsal outline.

Elytra oval, lateral margins not explanate, without traces of longitudinal ridges, widest a bit before the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures separated by ca. 1.0–1.5 diameters; humeri well marked; EL/EW 1.1; EL/PL 4.7; EW/PW 1.5

Legs moderately long. Hind tibial spurs well developed, dorsal one slightly curved, unmodified, slightly shorter than tarsomere 1, and twice as long as ventral one; ventral spur slightly curved.

Apex of ventrite 5 deeply emarginated.

Sternite 9 (L 0.55, W 0.23) elongated, with strongly sclerotized apical portion covered with several setae; tergite 8 (L 0.58, W 0.40) with basally diverging apodemes and a row of dense setae on apical margin; tergit 9 (L 0.50, W 0.28) with reduced apical portion and long setae at apex; tegmen (L 0.56, W 0.27) with long parameres armed with several spines on inner side of apical portion, mesal process as long as parameres, narrow; penis (L 0.43, W 0.08) relatively large, trigonium elongated, as long as pala, two short lateral processes present.

Female unknown.

Variability. TL/EW 1.2–1.3.

Measurements. Males (n = 2): TL 2.65–2.90, PL 0.50–0.55, PW 1.48–1.60, EL 2.40–2.60, EW 2.05– 2.35.

Note. The paratype is a teneral specimen, having slightly lighter color of dorsum.

Distribution. India: Meghalaya.

Etymology. After Meghalaya, where the type specimens were collected.
