Diagnosis. Taphura boulardi can be distinguished from all other Taphura by the five spots on the dorsal surface of the head ( Sanborn 2017a). Males of Taphura boulardi possess lateral branches of the anal tube that curve dorsally and form a terminal hook. The notch in female abdominal sternite VII almost reaches the anterior margin medially, the notch is semi-circular medially connected to a short transverse section before angling to the posterolateral corner.
Distribution. The range of the species has been expanding significantly since its discovery in French Guiana with current records including Ecuador, Peru, Suriname, and Trinidad ( Sanborn 2011a; 2017a; 2020a, b, d; 2023a).
