Guyalna bogotana ( Distant, 1892b) View in CoL
Fidicina bogotana Distant 1892b: 58 View in CoL (Bogotá, Colombia).
Remarks. This is one of a series of species (e.g., see synonymies under Dorisiana semilata ) that have a greenish tawny head and thorax with ochraceous abdomen found in Central and South America. The curved timbal cover with ventral margin parallel to the long body axis distinguishes it as a species of Guyalna .
Diagnosis. The greenish tawny head and thorax with ochraceous abdomen gives this species a very similar general appearance to Dorisiana semilata . However, the presence of a curved timbal cover with ventral margin parallel to the long body axis distinguishes it as a species of Guyalna rather than Dorisiana . In addition, Guyalna bogotana is a narrower species with a more posteriorly projecting mesothorax. The transverse fascia through the ocelli is thin and incomplete, there is no transverse piceous fascia posteriorly on the head, and the anterior extension is less than half the posterior extension from the lateral angle of the pronotal collar is about the same size in Guyalna bogotana .
Distribution. The species has been reported from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2013; 2020a, b, d, e; Sanborn & Heath 2014). The species has only been reported in Trinidad within the Lesser Antilles ( Sanborn 2020a).
