Pterygosoma annectans Jack, 1962 ( Figs 62 View FIGURE 62 and 63 View FIGURE 63 )
Pterygosoma annectans Jack, 1962: 580 , fig. 1
Type host: Acanthocercus annectens (Sauria: Agamidae ). Type locality: Kenya (Murri). Redescription. FEMALE (based on 1 lectotype from type host species, Acanthocercus annectens , and 5 non- type specimens from Agama lionotus ). Gnathosoma . Chelicerae 205–235 long; swollen cheliceral part 80–90 long, slender distal part 125–145 long. Fixed cheliceral digit with minute tines, about 15 long. Setae dF and dG 45–65 and 45–55 long, respectively. Palpal tibia with small claw. Palpal tarsi with 3 setae. Subcapitulum with filiform setae n, about 15 long. Peritremes 125–145 long. Hypostome 205–215 long, with smooth rounded apex. Idiosoma 500–605 long and 955–1265 wide. Dorsum. Antero-lateral part with 50–60 pairs of serrate setae, 25–50 long; setae situated laterally usually with slightly expanded tips. Medial part of idiosoma with 2 pairs of dorso-median setae dm1 and dm2 with barely discernible serration, 35–45 and 45–50 long, respectively. In 4 specimens setae dm2 slightly apically expanded. Peripheral setae represented by 8–18 pairs of fine-pointed setae, 165–335 long. Eyes absent. Venter. Setae vm1 filiform, vm2 and vm3 with barely discernible serration. Genital slit situated terminally. Genital series represented by 1 pair of spine-like conspicuous setae g1 25–40 long and minute setae g2 and g3 (these setae barely discernible). Pseudanal series represented by 4 pairs of setae ps1–ps4, 45–95 long. Setae ps1 and ps2 slightly apically expanded, setae ps3 blunt-pointed, setae ps4 blunt-pointed or fine-pointed. Legs chaetotaxy as in adramitana group i.e. setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1–1–1), femora I–IV (3–1–1–1), genua I–IV (2–0–0–1), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3). In 1 non-type specimen additional setae vGI present. All setae on each podomere filiform, except for setae dFI–IV with barely discernible serration. Setation of tarsi as in group A: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’ of legs II–IV and a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’, vs” of legs I–IV smooth.
MALE (based on the description presented in Jack 1962a, amended). Gnathosoma as in female. Chelicerae about 125 long; swollen cheliceral part about 55 long, slender cheliceral part about 70 long. Idiosoma 225 long and 605 wide. Dorsum with 14–16 pairs of antero-lateral serrate setae, 15–20 long; 3 pairs of dorso-median setae dm1–dm3: setae dm1 slightly serrate and about 30 long, setae dm2 serrate and about 20 long, setae dm3 smooth and about 15 long; 2 pairs of postero-lateral setae, 55–90 long, and 4–6 pairs of peripheral fine-pointed setae, 165–220 long. Eyes present. Venter as in female. Aedeagus about 115 long, directed forward; genito-anal opening with 2 pairs of filiform setae. Legs as in female.
Type material (examined). One female lectotype ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.318) from Acanthocercus annectens (Blanford) ( NHM no. 1931.7.20.281–287), SOMALIA: Sanaag region, 10°13’N 48°46’E, 19 November 1929, coll. Taylor. GoogleMaps
Non-type material (examined). Four females ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.326–332) from Agama lionotus Boulenger (Sauria: Agamidae ) ( NHM no. 1950.6.29.1), KENYA: Mount Kenya, 29 June 1950, coll. Lord Dalamere; 1 female from same host species ( NHM no. 1935.12.1.108) and location, 1 December 1935, coll. Fuchs.
Type material deposition. All material deposited in the NHM .
Hosts and distribution. This species was recorded from Acanthocercus annectens from Kenya [the North Eastern Province, Murri], Somalia [Sanaag region] and Agama lionotus from Kenya [The North Eastern Province, Dandu; Eastern Province, Mount Kenya; the Kenyan Rift Valley, Lake Turkana] ( Jack 1961).
Remarks. This study shows some inaccuracies in the descriptions of this species made by Jack (1962a, 1964) i.e. three setae on the anterior coxal field are present and setae vFIV are absent vs. the presence of four setae on the anterior coxal field ( Jack 1962a) and the absence of setae vFIV ( Jack 1964).
