Dendrothrips karnyi Priesner, 1921: 115 View in CoL

Female macropterous Body and legs yellowish white (Fig. 1), without dark spots; antennal segments I–V yellow, distal part of V and VI–VIII brown (Fig. 4); fore wing uniformly pale (Fig. 7). Antennae 8-segmented; segments III & IV each with a small simple sense cone; antennal segment V shorter than VI. Head transverse, reticulate near stout occipital ridge (Fig. 3); ocellar region with tuberculate not reticulate sculpture; two pairs of ocellar setae present, ocellar setae III just outside lateral margins of triangle. Pronotum wider than long, with two pairs of prominent posteroangular setae, inner pair about half as long as outer one (Fig. 3). Metanotum with elongate reticulation, median pair of setae small and arising medially (Fig. 2). Campaniform sensilla absent on both meso and metanotum (Fig. 2). Abdominal tergites II–VIII median setae long and close together; lateral thirds of tergites with complex sculpture (Fig. 5); VIII with complete comb; IX without campaniform sensilla. Sternites without discal setae; II with 2 pairs of posteromarginal setae, III–VII with 3 pairs (Fig. 6).

Measurements (one female, in microns). Body length 1040. Head, length (width across cheeks) 77 (137); compound eye dorsal length 58, distance between posterior ocelli 34, distance between ocellar setae III 25, and II 37. Pronotum median length (width) 88 (167), posteroangular setae I length 20, setae II length 36. Fore wing length 675. Tergum X median length 60, S1 setae length 48. Hind tibia length 160. Ovipositor length 175. Antennal segments I–VIII length: 23, 25, 26, 27, 22, 30, 10, 14.

Male macropterous. Similar to female, but smaller (Fig. 8). Antennal segments I–VIII yellow, VI shaded (Fig. 9). Abdominal tergites I–IX with increasingly long median setae on each tergite; tergite VIII with complete posteromarginal comb of fine microtrichia (Fig. 10).

Measurements (one male, in microns). Body length 775. Head length (width across cheeks) 36 (120), compound eye dorsal length 54, distance between posterior ocelli 24, distance between ocellar setae III 20. Pronotal median length (width) 65 (130). posteroangular setae I length 17, setae II length 27. Fore wings length 540. Antennal segments I–VIII as follows: 17, 26, 30, 32, 27, 30, 10, 13.
