Material examined. 1♂, 1♀, India, Sikhim [Sikkim] (gen. aest.) (NZCZSI) (data related to date of collection, name of collector etc. is missing) .

Diagnosis ( Figs 9, 10 View FIGURES 7–16 ). Forewing length: Male: 29.84 mm (n = 1); Female: 27.55 mm (n = 1). Due to broadly suffused wing base and veins with black scales on both surfaces, P. melaina can be easily distinguished from its other Himalayan congeners ( P. tadokoroi , sp. nov., P. ajaka and P. erutae ). In female, P. melaina is distinct from its closely related species in having the heavily dusted and more thickly suffused veins on upper surface. Seasonal dimorphism is not strongly developed.

Male genitalia ( Figs 35 View FIGURES 31–39 , 44 View FIGURES 40–48 , 53 View FIGURES 49–57 , 61 View FIGURES 58–64 , 69 View FIGURES 65–73 ). Male genitalia are closely similar to P. tadokoroi , sp. nov. and P. ajaka , and the distinguishing characters are discussed under P. ajaka .

Female genitalia ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 84–85 ). Female genitalia are discussed in detail under the diagnosis of P. ajaka .

Androconia ( Fig. 77 View FIGURES 74–81 ). As discussed under P. ajaka .

Distribution. Garhwal Himalaya to Bhutan including Sikkim and Chumbi Valley (Tibet).
