Erythraeus (Erythraeus) populi sp. nov. (n=2)

( Figs. 1–16 View FIGURES 1 – 5 View FIGURES 6 – 10 View FIGURES 11 – 16 )

Type material. Holotype and one paratype larvae from pear lace bug, Stephanitis pyri F. (Heteroptera: Tingidae ), on poplar tree, Populus nigra L. ( Salicaceae ), College of Agriculture, Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamedan (34° 47´38´N, 48° 29´04´E, altitude 1838 m a.s.l), Hamedan Province, Iran; 5 August, 2010; by M. Khanjani.

Diagnosis. Basifemora I–III with three setae, Ti I with 15 seate, palp tarsus with eight setae (including one solenidion and one eupathidion), fD 60, fV 16, NVD 76, IP 2493–2592.

Description. The measurements are given in Table 2 View TABLE 2 .

Dorsum ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Prodorsal region of scutum with two pairs of barbed setae (AL and PL) and two pairs of barbed sensillae (Asens=AM and Psens=S). Both scutal setae (AL, PL) strongly barbed, length of anterolateral setae (AL) more than 1.4 times the posterolateral setae (PL) ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Scutum almost trapezoid, medioanterior margin convex and posterior margin concave, two pairs of eyes posterolateral to scutum (first 25 (25) and second 20 (20) in diameter). Opisthosoma with 60 rather long and barbed setae ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). fD = 60.

Venter ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Intercoxal area with two pairs of setae, 1a and 3a. Seta 1a 1.6 times longer than seta 3a. Opisthogaster with eight pairs of setae. fV=16.

Gnathosoma ( Figs. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 6, 7 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ). Infracapitulum with one pair each of subcapitular setae, Hy 33 (34) and adoral setae Or 20 (24). Palp five-segmented, femur and genu each with one barbed seta, tibia with three barbed setae and with bifurcate claw 26 (30), 31 (34) long, tarsus with eight setae including two smooth and four barbed setae, a eupathidium and a solenidion [13 (14) long] (0-0-B-B-BBB2-BBBBNNwx). Supracoxal seta 3 (4) long ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ).

Legs ( Figs. 8–16 View FIGURES 6 – 10 View FIGURES 11 – 16 ). Legs long, especially all tibiae ( Table 2 View TABLE 2 ); femora divided into basi- and telofemora. Tarsi terminate in two lateral claws and a claw-like empodium. Chaetotaxy of leg segments as follows: coxae 1-1-1; trochanters 1-1-1; basifemora 3-3-3; telofemora 5-5-5; genua 8+1 s +1 k -8+1 k -8; tibiae 15+2 j +1k- 5+2 j -15+1 j; tarsi 27+ 2 x +1 w +1 e +1 Cp -23+ 2 x +1 w +1 Cp -24+ 1 x. Lengths of solenidia: w I 22 (24); w II 17-21 (17); e I 3-4 (4); Cp Ta I 7-8 (8); Cp Ta II 6-7 (7); j I 31 (32); j I 30 (33); j II 18 (21); j II 7-9 (8); j III 17-19 (18); k Ti I 6-8 (7); k Ge I 7 (8); k Ge II 6 (7); s I 22 (20). Coxa I with one supracoxal seta 4 (4) long ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ).

Remarks. The new species belongs to the group of species with setal basifemora formula 3-3-3. It can be distinguished from those species by the unique combination of characters and measurements shown in the diagnosis, and more extensively by their measurements and setal patterns which are shown in Tables 3, 4 (see more details those tables).

Etymology. The new species is named after the genus name of host plant, Populus nigra L. ( Salicaceae ), from which was obtained holotype and paratype of this species.
