Basionym : Lophiotrema guttulata Boonmee, Tippromma & K.D. Hyde , Fungal Divers. 83: 40. 2017.

Note: Tibpromma et al. (2017) treated Lophiotrema guttulata distinct from other species of Lophiotrema View in CoL based on molecular phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU and SSU data and reported that Lophiotrema guttulata nested between L. lignicola View in CoL and L. neohysterioides View in CoL . Lophiotrema guttulata collected from unknown host from Thailand morphologically differs from other Lophiotrema species in having a protruding ascomatal neck, carbonaceous papilla and lacking a mucilaginous sheath in ascospores.

These two species previously recognized as Lophiotrema bambusae and L. guttulata cluster with the new taxon ( Atrocalyx acervatus ), A. acutisporus and A. lignicola . Hashimoto et al. (2017) stated the generic placement of Lophiotrema bamubusae as pending because they were unable to observe material of L. bambusae . Lophiotrema guttulata was introduced by Tibpromma et al. (2017) simultaneously with Hashimoto et al. (2017).

Both Atrocalyx bambusae View in CoL and A. guttulata fit well into the generic concept of Atrocalyx View in CoL in having ascomata with crest-like, elongated and laterally compressed ostiolar necks and well-developed peridia with 2 zones ( Hyde et al. 2016, Tibpromma et al. 2017, Hashimoto et al. 2017). Lophiotrema bambusae View in CoL and L. guttulata differ from each other in having different host species and the morphology of ascospores. Lophiotrema bambusae View in CoL was collected from bamboo in Thailand while L. guttulata was collected from dead wood of an unknown plant species in Thailand. Lophiotrema bambusae View in CoL has immersed to semi-immersed ascomata with conical to quadrilateral, or irregular in shape while L. guttulata has immersed ascomata with sub-globose shape ( Hyde et al. 2016, Tibpromma et al. 2017). Lophiotrema bambusae View in CoL has fusiform ascospores with a mucilaginous sheath, whereas L. guttulata has ellipsoidal to fusiform ascospores with terminal appendages and prominent guttules ( Hyde et al. 2016, Tibpromma et al. 2017). Therefore, here we refer Lophiotrema bambusae View in CoL and Lophiotrema guttulata as Atrocalyx bambusae View in CoL and Atrocalyx guttulata View in CoL respectively on the basis of morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses.
