TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Veracruz, Hernandez .

DISTRIBUTION: E. Brazil, Paraguay, N. Argentina, and Peru, north to C. Arizona and Texas ( U.S.A.). Arkansas (CPG).

COMMENT: Leopardus is considered a valid genus by CPG. Type locality fixed by Thomas, 1911, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1911: 136.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Felidae . U.S. ESA - Endangered as F. pardalis .

CITES - Appendix I as F. p. mearnsi subspecies only.
