COMMENT: Includes Herpailurus, Leopardus, Lynchailurus, Oreailurus, Pardofelis, Prionailurus, Profelis, and Puma , which are all considered valid genera by CPG; also includes Badiofelis, Chaus, Leptailurus, Mayailurus, and Otocolobus ; see Corbet and Hill, 1980:104, Corbet, 1978:180, and Hemmer, 1978, Carnivore, 1:71. Felis is in need of revision. The number and content of genera that should be recognized is in dispute; see Hemmer, 1978, Carnivore, 1:71, and Weigel, 1961, Saugetierk. Mitt., 9: 120.
