TYPE LOCALITY: Paraguay, vicinity of Asuncion .
DISTRIBUTION: Argentina, north of Rio Negro; Paraguay; Uruguay; S. Brazil; E. Bolivia.
COMMENT: Subgenus Dusicyon or Pseudalopex ; see Cabrera, 1958:234; Van Gelder, 1978:7. Pseudalopex has been considered a synonym of Dusicyon by Cabrera, 1958;229; and Clutton-Brock et al., 1976, 29(3): 166; a subgenus of Dusicyon by Langguth, 1969, Z. Wiss. Zool., 179: 176; a subgenus of Canis by Langguth, 1975:193; and Van Gelder, 1978:7. Includes culpaeolus (part) and inca (part), mismatched skin and skull; see Langguth, 1967, Neotropica, 13:21-38. AL considers inca a synonym of culpaeus . Type locality restricted by Cabrera, 1958:235.
