TYPE LOCALITY: Nepal .

DISTRIBUTION: Primorsky Krai ( U.S. S. R.); Korea; China, west along Himalayan foothills to N. W. Pakistan; isolates in S. India, S. E. Asia, Taiwan, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo.

COMMENT: Includes gwatkinsi ; see Corbet, 1978:174; but also see Anderson, 1970, Acta Zool. Fenn., 130:108, who considered gwatkinsi a distinct species.

PROTECTED STATUS: U.S. ESA - Endangered as M. f. chrysospila subspecies only.
