Type species: Tospitis latana Walker, 1863 . Type locality: Sri Lanka.

Genera Garudinia Moore, 1882 and Padenia Moore, 1882 are similar externally. Both the forewings are white with two distinct marks; the hindwings of the females are similarly shaped, but those of the males are broad and marginally excavate. The diagnostic features between them are as follows. In Padenia , the forewing is narrower and slightly longer, with two narrow brown bands that run from the costal margin to the inner margin, and there are at least three medial sector veins involved in the branching system of the forewing. The ground color of the hindwing is lighter. Garudinia is characterized by its small to medium size. The forewings are oval-shaped, with a length of 6.5– 10 mm; the ground color is white, with two large purple black marks on the antemedial and subterminal areas; there are at most two medial sector veins involved in the branching system of the forewing. In the male genitalia, the valva is symmetrical and membranous; the costal process is usually developed, sclerotized, and apically narrowed while the saccular process is undeveloped, but in a few species the costal process is nonexistent, and the saccular process is developed, sclerotized, and apically narrowed. In the female genitalia, the base of the apophysis anterior is triangular, while the apophysis posterior is thinner, and obviously longer than the apophysis anterior; the ostium bursae is wrinkled; and the corpus bursae has a zone of spines.
