Ascra florida Barber, 1935

Distribution: United States: FL, LA, MD, NC, SC, VA.

Comments: Froeschner (1988) listed this species under the combination Edessa florida . Santos et al. (2015) transferred this species from Edessa to Ascra and placed it as a junior synonym of Ascra bifida . North American specimens of the two taxa are relatively easy to separate, and it is difficult to imagine that they are conspecific. Apparently, in the southern part of their range ( Mexico, Central America) there are intermediates, and the separation of the two species is more difficult. We have chosen to list both species until further studies can be conducted.
