Comments: This species, in early works, was confused with Thyanta custator custator , both of which have a black, piceous line along each anterolateral pronotal margin. Interestingly, the fact that this species was distinct from Thyanta custator custator was first discovered through the chromosomal work of Wilson (reported on in Barber 1911b), who then sent his specimens to Barber for further morphological work. Wilson determined that this species had twice the number of chromosomes as was present in Thyanta custator custator . Barber (1911b) was then able to document several morphological characters in which the two species were distinct.
