This genus contains many species, mainly neotropical, that are usually smallish, greenish, and have the base of the abdomen produced forward as a small spine or tubercle. Banasa was reviewed in three parts according to geography: Nearctic species ( Thomas & Yonke 1981); Mexican, West Indian, and Central American species ( Thomas & Yonke 1988); and South American species ( Thomas & Yonke 1990).
