Margarinotus (Paralister) remotus (J. L. LeConte, 1859) View in CoL ( Figs. 2D–F View Fig , 3 View Fig )

Hister remotus J. L. LeConte 1859: 70 . Margarinotus remotus (J. L. LeConte) ; Wenzel

1944: 126. Type locality “[Fort] Tejon”

Diagnosis. PEL= 4.42–4.55 mm; PNW= 2.87– 2.93 mm. See above under M. ephemeralis .

Remarks. This species, as with the preceding, has been reported mainly from the burrows of ground squirrels (Wenzel unpublished; Ross 1952).

Distribution ( Fig. 3 View Fig ). Margarinotus remotus was described from Ft. Tejon (Kern Co., CA), and has since been recorded from very few localities in central California and Oregon. There have been a few recent collections from flumes flowing out of the south-central Sierra Nevada (EMEC). Singleton female specimens in the CASC from CA: Marin Co., 0.8 mi NW Alpine Lake and CA: Nevada Co., North San Juan [CASENT5516938] seem to be this species, but cannot be determined with certainty.
