Type material: Holotype ♂: THAILAND:/ Chiang Mai Prov. / Chiang Mai hill/side 6 ii.2003 / Col. H. Kurahashi [ BLKU].

Etymology: Named after the Japanese entomologist Hiromu Kurahashi.

Description: Body length: 8.5 mm.

Coloration and pruinescence: Head mainly black, covered with whitish-grey pruinescence. Palpus mainly yellow. Antenna (thus including arista) black. Thorax mainly black; posterior 3/4 of scutellum reddish-yellow; scutum with four presutural dark vittae. Legs black. Tegula and basicosta black or dark brown. Abdomen entirely black in ground colour. Abdominal tergite 3 and 4 with a band of whitish-grey pruinescence on anterior 1/2–2/3; tergites 3 and 4 pruinose on anterior 2/3; remaining surface of tergites covered with bronze-brown pruinescence.

Head: Compound eye bare. Arista thickened on basal 1/2 or slightly less. Second aristomere 4.4 times as long as wide. Thickened part of third aristomere about two times as long as second aristomere. Postpedicel 6.5 times as long as pedicel. Vertex at its narrowest point 0.96 times as wide as compound eye in dorsal view. Lateral vertical seta not differentiated from postocular setae. Eight to nine frontal setae descending below level of base of arista. Gena in profile about 0.2 times as high as compound eye. Postocular setae fine, relatively long, curved anteriorly. Prementum about 1.0–1.5 times as long as wide.

Abdomen: Syntergite 1 + 2 with one pair of short median marginal setae. Tergite 3 with one pair of median marginal setae about 0.7 times as long as corresponding tergite. Tergite 4 with a row of eight marginal setae. Tergite 5 with a row of marginal and discal setae.

Male terminalia ( Fig. 22A–C View Figure 22 ): Epandrium relatively short, convex, not subglobular. Hypandrial arms long, not bent anteriorly, about as long as hypandrial apodeme plus medial plate in lateral view. Basal 2/3 of cerci, in posterior view, subtriangular (e.g. cerci strongly narrowing at midpoint) ( Fig. 22B View Figure 22 ); subrectangular in lateral view. Apical 1/3 of cerci strongly bent posteriorly, well apart and more or less laterally compressed ( Fig. 22B View Figure 22 ). Apical medial tooth of cerci present, but not well developed. Apical 1/4 of surstylus folded posteromedially, apically slightly pointed ( Fig. 22A, B View Figure 22 ). Posterolateral surface of surstylus with scattered short setulae; medial membrane of surstylus wrinkled and partially visible in profile ( Fig. 22A, B View Figure 22 ).
