Comments. Males of Syntrichomyia are easily recognized by the fusion between the gonocoxites and hypandrium forming a plate-like sclerite, the posterolateral surface of which has bristles inserted; other charactersitics include the basal fusion of gonostyli with divergent apices lightly sclerotized and the hypoproct bilobed.
