Type species: Thienemannimyia geijskesi ( Goetghebuer, 1934: 290) .

Emended generic diagnosis. Based on the material examination and the references, the generic diagnosis of male Thienemannimyia given by Murray and Fittkau (1989) can be emended as follows: “Antennal ratio 1.5–2.0” should be changed to “AR 0.35–2.1” [0.35 in T. dimorpha sp. n., 2.1 in T. barberi ( Coquillett, 1902) ( Roback 1971) ]. The male antenna has 11 ( T. dimorpha sp. n.) or 14 flagellomeres.
