( Figure 4 View FIGURES 1 – 8 )

Adelphocoris brunnescens Poppius, 1915a: 35 View in CoL (as new species); Waucoris brunnescens: Carvalho 1987: 156 View in CoL –157 (new combination, redescription, MG); Schuh 1995: 672, 971 (catalog) [Schuh (loc. cit.) incorrectly quotes “ POPPIUS, 1914b: 383 ” as original reference and Lygus brunnescens POPPIUS, 1914 as original combination for this species, thus misinterpreting Carvalho’s (1987b) new combination of Adelphocoris brunnescens POPPIUS, 1915a View in CoL .]; Carpintero & Chérot 2002: 46, 52 (MG, FG, discussion); Schuh 2002–2013 (online catalog).

Material examined. Type specimen: Holotype Ƌ by monotypy: PAPUA NEW GUINEA: MOROBE: Simbang, Huon Golf, 1898, Biró leg, type 10082 ( MZHF).

Additional material. 18ƋƋ and ♀♀: PAPUA NEW GUINEA: MADANG: Baiteta Forest, between 26.iii.1993 and 26.iv.1996, by light trap and fogging, O. Missa leg. ( ISNB).

Diagnosis. Body totally brown; head light brown to yellow, eyes gray, posterior margin contiguous with pronotal collar; first antennal segment orange brown, slightly club-like and curved, second segment yellow, narrower than the first, with a tiny black ring apically, third and fourth segments yellow, very similar to second; pronotal collar yellow; pronotal disk brown, shagreen, with a pair of dark brown sub-median spots; legs yellowish brown, tibial spines yellow; scutellum shagreen, brown, except yellow tip; hemelytra brown, slightly shagreen, cuneus brown with some small dark brown spots, membrane dark brown, veins yellow.

Discussion. The type of A. brunnescens and some additional specimens from Baiteta Forest preserved at the ISNB have been examined and they conform to our diagnosis of the genus Adelphocorisella in their external morphology and the genitalia of both sexes ( Carpintero & Chérot 2002; Chérot et al. in prep.). Therefore, we suggest the new combination.
