Exoprosopa goliath Bezzi View in CoL

Exoprosopa goliath Bezzi, 1924: 341 View in CoL , Malawi [examined]

This is the largest of the series and is only reliably known from the type series. It is similar in appearance to E. brevinasis View in CoL and E. magnipennis View in CoL which may sometimes approach it in size. Bezzi (1924) states that there are no white scale bands on the abdomen. However, this is not correct. The specimens are greasy but all have at least traces of bands on all terga, except the ®rst, as in these other species. However, the abdomen is very short and broad and the terga are swollen, as noted by Bezzi, giving the specimens a distinctive appearance. Bezzi (1924) provided a full description and illustration of the wing.

Length of body, 20±22 mm; of wing, 25±27 mm.

Distribution Malawi (®gure 19).
