Pardalotus rubricatus parryi Mathews

Pardalotus rubricatus parryi Mathews, 1912a: 390   (North-West Australia (Parry’s Creek)).

Now Pardalotus rubricatus rubricatus Gould, 1838   . See Salomonsen, 1961b: 16–24, Schodde and Mason, 1999: 126–127, and Woinarski, 2008: 401.

HOLOTYPE: AMNH 699167 View Materials , adult male, collected on Parry Creek , 15.36S, 128.17E ( Johnstone and Storr, 2004: 512), 5 miles west of Trig. Station HJ 9, East Kimberley, Western Australia, Australia, on 30 November 1908, by J.P. Rogers (no. 386). From the Mathews Collection (no. 2903) via the Rothschild Collection. GoogleMaps

COMMENTS: In the original description, Mathews gave his catalog number of the holotype and the range of parryi as ‘‘North- West Australia, Northern Territory.’’ The above specimen bears Rogers’ original field label, a Mathews type label with his catalog number written on it, and a Rothschild type label. The following specimens in AMNH, all collected by J.P. Rogers, are paratypes: Mungi Rock Hole, 8 miles southeast of Mt. Alexander , West Kimberley , June 1911, AMNH 699159 View Materials (Mathews no. 9190, Rogers no. 1753), female, AMNH 699160 View Materials (9193, 1794), male, AMNH 699161 View Materials (9196, 1805), male, AMNH 699162 View Materials (9192, 1797), female, AMNH 699163 View Materials (9191, 1790), unsexed, AMNH 699164 View Materials (9195, 1791), unsexed   ; Parry Creek, East Kimberley , November and December 1908 and January 1909, AMNH 699165 View Materials (2905, 387), male, AMNH 699166 View Materials (2900, 326), male, AMNH 699168 View Materials (2904, 431), male, AMNH 699169 View Materials (2899, 369), male, AMNH 699170 View Materials (2901, 422), male, AMNH 699171 View Materials (2902, 328), male, AMNH 699172 View Materials (2906, 348), male, AMNH 699173 View Materials (2896,403), unsexed, AMNH 699174 View Materials (2897, 389), unsexed, AMNH 699175 View Materials (2898, 365), unsexed, AMNH 699176 View Materials (2908, 385), female, AMNH 699177 View Materials (2909, 347), female, AMNH 699178 View Materials (2907, 327), female, AMNH 699179 View Materials (2910, 538), female   .

Mathews (1924: pl. 509, opp. p. 210, text p. 220) figured an adult male collected on 24 November 1908, noting in error that this was the type of parryi. AMNH 699167 View Materials , with Mathews no. 2903, is the specimen designated as the holotype in the original description   ; the male collected on 24 November bears Mathews no. 2899 and is now AMNH 699169 View Materials . Rogers’ label on AMNH 699169 View Materials is marked ‘‘Type’’ by Mathews and a Rothschild type label has been filled in by someone other than Hartert   ; it had also been marked ‘‘type’’ in the AMNH catalog. The error was recognized by J.F[arrand] and the specimen returned to the regular collection with part of the type label cut off. It is a paratype. None of the specimens has a Mathews ‘‘Figured’’ label   .
