Geographical distribution: Brazil.

Distribution in Brazil: North Region (AM) ( Nieser & Chen 2006).

Gelastocoridae (2 genera, 21 species)

Gelastocorinae (1 genus, 9 species)

Gelastocoris Kirkaldy, 1897 (9 species)

Comments: The genus Montandonius Melin, 1929 , in which G. angulatus ( Melin, 1929) and Gelastocoris willineri (De Carlo, 1954) were originally described, was considered a junior-synonym of Gelastocoris by Todd (1955), but not by De Carlo (1959) and Nieser (1975). Schnack & Estévez (1979) and Estévez and Schnack (1980) considered the synonymy between the two genera valid, a decision which is followed by the present authors. Besides that, four species have been described belonging to Montandonius, but Todd (1955) considered all synonyms of G. angulatus . Nieser (1975), on the other hand, mentioned that G. mansosotoi (De Carlo, 1954) and G. bridarollii (De Carlo, 1954) , both described only from females, could be just individual variations of G. angulatus , but that G. willineri (De Carlo, 1954) constitutes a different species. Schnack & Estévez (1979), in their turn, consider the four species originally described in Montandonius as valid and distinct. Gelastocoris willineri is herein treated as a valid species, but until there is an agreement on the taxonomic statuses of G. mansosotoi and G. bridarollii , records for these two species are considered under G. angulatus by the present authors.
