Diagnosis

Females of T. tortuosus sp. nov. can be easily recognized by the strongly convoluted terminal portion of the insemination ducts ( Figure 15 View Figure 15 B).

Type material

Holotype. ♀, Indonesia: Sumatra, West Sumatra Province: Anai Valley, 6 km south of Padang Panjang, 500 m, primary forest , 1 June 2006, leg. P.J. Schwendinger ( MHNG, Sum-06 / 03) .

Paratypes. Data as holotype, 2♀, ( MHNG, Sum-06 / 03) .

Etymology

The specific epithet is a nominative form of an adjective (Latin: tortuosus , - a, - um = twist), and refers to the strongly tortuous duct of the internal female genitalia.

Description

Female (holotype). Total length 5.46; prosoma 2.66 long, 1.82 wide; opisthosoma 2.80 long, 1.40 wide. Leg formula: 1423; I 11.98 (2.70, 1.12, 3.72, 2.58, 1.86); II 9.38 (2.18, 1.00, 2.88, 1.96, 1.36); III 8.18 (1.86, 0.98, 2.32, 1.78, 1.24); IV 11.14 (2.78, 1.12, 3.12, 2.46, 1.66). Spination: Leg I: Femora p1-1; tibiae p9 r9; metatarsi p5 r5. Leg II: Tibiae p8 r8; metatarsi p4 r4. Carapace dark chestnut-brown; submarginal lobes blunt. Sternum brown. Legs hairless, bi-coloured: Tibiae, metatarsi and tarsi yellowish, other segments orange-brown. Opisthosoma elongate-ovoid. Dorsum dark greenish, posteriorly with series of pale chevrons. Venter dark greenish.

Genitalia ( Figure 15 View Figure 15 A,B): Epigyne with elliptic copulatory orifices situated anteriorly. Insemination ducts elongated, descending posteriorly then abruptly bent, forming tortuous terminal complex, connected to anterior lateral portion of spermathecae. Secretory ampullae spherical, originating proximally on insemination ducts. Spermathecae ovoid, rounded anteriorly, gradually narrowing posteriorly, provided with apical glandular pore. Fertilization ducts lanceolated.
