Teutamus apiculatus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figures 3 View Figure 3 D,F, 8 A–F)

Diagnosis

Males of T. apiculatus sp. nov. closely resemble those of T. fertilis but can be distinguished by the peculiar shape of conductor ( Figure 8 View Figure 8 A,D); females can be recognized by the zigzagged insemination ducts and the apical glandular pore on the spermathecae ( Figures 3 View Figure 3 D, 8 F).

Type material

Holotype. ♂, Malaysia: Pahang State: Cameron Highlands, Orang Asil, village near Mt Perdah, 1575 m, sifting leaf litter in shallow ravine , 2–14 May 2009, leg. P. Banar ( MHNG, MAL-PB5) .

Paratypes. Data as holotype, 1♂, 2♀ ( MHNG, MAL-PB5) . Fraser Hill, south side , 1300 m, 26 August 2004, 2♀ ( MHNG, MAL-04 / 10) .

Etymology

The specific epithet is a nominative form of an adjective (Latin: apiculatus , - a, um), referring to the large glandular pore locating on the apex of spermathecae.

Description

Male (holotype). Total length 5.06; prosoma 2.42 long, 1.62 wide; opisthosoma 2.64 long, 1.30 wide. Leg formula: 1423; I 11.06 (2.52, 0.98, 3.48, 2.42, 1.66); II 8.76 (2.02, 0.98, 2.72, 1.88, 1.16); III 7.42 (1.66, 0.92, 2.16, 1.64, 1.04); IV 10.78 (2.62, 1.04, 3.06, 2.62, 1.44). Carapace reddish brown; submarginal lobes triangular, their apices bluntly pointed. Sternum reddish brown. Legs hairless, orange-brown. Opisthosoma elongate-ovoid. Dorsal scutum covering two-thirds of length of opisthosoma.

Palp ( Figure 8 View Figure 8 A–C): RTA triangular, strongly excavated medially, its apex blunt, anterior margin with colourless and transparent lamina. DTA short and stout. Tegulum ovoid, slightly excavated on baso-retrolateral side. Conductor parallel-sided, abruptly narrowing towards apex. Embolic base clearly visible.

Female (paratype, MHNG, MAL-PB5). Total length 5.02; prosoma 2.38 long, 1.62 wide; opisthosoma 2.64 long, 1.30 wide. Leg formula: 1423; I 11.08 (2.48, 1.04, 3.52, 2.38, 1.66); II 8.78 (2.02, 1.02, 2.68, 1.88, 1.18); III 7.40 (1.68, 0.92, 2.14, 1.62, 1.04); IV 10.66 (2.58, 1.04, 3.06, 2.60, 1.38). General appearance as in male except submarginal lobes on carapace broader at base, their apices blunt; dorsum of opisthosoma pale, posteriorly with a series of faint chevrons.

Genitalia ( Figures 3 View Figure 3 D,F, 8 E,F): Epigyne with shallow median depression situated between crescent-shaped copulatory orifices. Insemination ducts zigzagged, connected to anterior lateral portion of spermathecae on ventral surface. Spermathecae elongate-ovoid, widest subapically, glandular pore situated apically. Fertilization ducts lanceolated.
