The genus Oryzomys , that until recently was the most speciose of the tribe Oryzomyini , now comprises five species, O. antillarum (Thomas 1898) , O. couesi (Alston 1877) , O. dimidiatus (Thomas 1905) , O. gorgasi (Hershkovitz 1971) , and O. palustris (Harlan 1837) . These species range from North and Central America to northwestern South America ( Percequillo 2015f; Voss & Weksler 2009; Weksler et al. 2006). There was cytogenetic information available only for O. couesi and O. palustris .
