Karyotype: 2n = 50 and FN = 68. Autosomal complement: two large subtelocentric pairs, eight metacentric and submetacentric pairs medium to small decreasing in size, and 14 acrocentric pairs (one large and the remaining medium to small decreasing in size). Sex chromosomes: X, an acrocentric (the largest chromosome of the complement); Y, a small acrocentric ( Patton & Silva 1995, pp. 331, Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7 ).
We presented another karyotype for the genus, mentioned here as Scolomys sp., obtained from fifteen males collected on the Rio Içá and Rio Japurá, Amazonas, Brazil ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ).
