Identification. Body deep; mouth terminal; premax- illa with five penta- to heptacuspidate teeth in a single row; two hepta- to octacuspidate teeth on maxilla; den- tary with six or seven octacuspidate teeth. Lateral line incomplete with seven or eight perforated scales; longi- tudinal series with 31 to 34 scales; five horizontal scale rows above lateral line; four horizontal scale rows be- low lateral line. Overall body coloration silver to orange; narrow midlateral dark stripe from posterior margin of opercle to caudal peduncle; caudal peduncle with con- spicuous dark spot extending to base of caudal-fin rays; dorsal fin with first rays and basal portion dark; pecto- ral, pelvic, anal, adipose, and caudal fins yellowish to orange; two yellowish patches on dorsal and ventral cau- dal-fin lobes.
