Type locality. Eritrea.

Type material. Holotype ♂: ERITREA: “ Erythraea // CNHM 1955, Karl Brancsik” ( FMNH).

Description. Body length 12.5 mm; length from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra: 6.5 mm. Black with red elytra, scutellum black, abdomen brownish black; antennae and legs dark brown. Head and pronotum with transverse micro-striation and micro-punctation. Head with setiferous postocular punctures ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 ). Labrum quadrilobate, with moderately prominent inner lobes ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 ). Scutellum very large, with deep punctation. Elytra with fine punctation, arranged in three series.

Male. Tergite and sternite of male genital segment as in Figs. 30, 31 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 . Aedeagus length ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 ) 1.3 mm, with median lobe spearhead-shaped ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 ); paramere long and narrow ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25 – 37. 25 – 31 ); internal sac more or less visible and narrow, covered by fine scales.

Female. Unknown.

Ratios: HL/HW: 1.10; TeL/EyL: 2.03; PL/PW: 1.29; EL/EW: 1.08; PW/HW: 0.96; EW/PW: 1.24; EL/PL: 1.04; A5L/A5W: n. a.; A10L/A10W: n. a.

Differential diagnosis. Achmonia knirschi sp. nov. differs from other Afrotropical species of the genus by the transverse microstriation of the head and pronotum and by the shape of the median lobe.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Eduard Knirsch (1869–1955) ( Horn et al. 1990), in whose collection (currently in FMNH), the holotype is deposited.

Distribution. The species is recorded only from an unspecified locality in Eritrea ( Fig. 1).
