FAMILY CRAUGASTORIDAE Hedges, Duellman & Heinicke 2008 View in CoL , 29

(2 subfamilies, 2 genera, 3 subgenera, 29 species, 15 endemic species)

SUBFAMILY CEUTHOMANTINAE Heinicke, Duellman, Trueb, Means, MacCulloch & Hedges 2009, 6 (1 genus, 2 species). Solís et al. (2014) misspelled MacCulloch; also the use of subfamilies by those authors was inconsistent in regard to recent proposals.

Pristimantis Jiménez de la Espada 1870, 61 (2 species). The date 1871 is frequently given (i.e. Savage 2002) for the Jiménez de la Espada publication proposing Pristimantis . Myers & Grant (2009) briefly discussed the confusion surrounding the date of that publication.

Pristimantis ridens species series (2 species). The two species listed in this series were listed as members of the Eleutherodactylus cerasinus and E. cruentus species groups in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007).

Pristimantis cerasinus (Cope 1875, 112)

Pristimantis ridens (Cope 1866, 131). Several populations of this color pattern variable species from northeastern Honduras resemble the color patterns of the morphologically similar P. cruentus (Peters 1873 [p. 609]) as shown by Savage (2002). Unfortunately, attempts at sequencing tissues from one of those populations failed.

SUBFAMILY CRAUGASTORINAE Hedges, Duellman & Heinicke 2008, 29 (1 genus, 3 subgenera, 4 species series, 27 species, 15 endemic species)

Craugastor Cope 1862 View in CoL , 153 (3 subgenera, 4 species series, 27 species, 15 endemic species)

Subgenus Campbellius Hedges, Duellman & Heinicke 2008, 33 (8 species, 8 endemic species). The subgenus Campbellius equals frogs formerly placed in the Craugastor milesi View in CoL species group (the companion publications McCranie 2006 and McCranie & Castañeda 2007).

Craugastor chrysozetetes View in CoL (E) (McCranie, Savage & Wilson 1989, 483)

Craugastor cruzi View in CoL (E) (McCranie, Savage & Wilson 1989, 485)

Craugastor epochthidius View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1997, 169)

Craugastor fecundus View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1997, 162)

Craugastor milesi View in CoL (E) (K. Schmidt 1933, 18)

Craugastor omoaensis View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1997, 155)

Craugastor saltuarius View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1997, 165)

Craugastor stadelmani View in CoL (E) (K. Schmidt 1936, 44)

Subgenus Craugastor Cope 1862 View in CoL , 153 (4 species series, 18 species, 7 endemic species)

Craugastor (Craugastor) fitzingeri View in CoL species series (1 species). The following species was included in the C. fitzingeri View in CoL species group in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007).

Craugastor fitzingeri View in CoL (O. Schmidt 1857, 12)

Craugastor (Craugastor) punctariolus View in CoL species series (9 species, 6 endemic species). The following species were included in the C. rugulosus View in CoL species group in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007), with the exception of C. megacephalus View in CoL , which was placed in a C. biporcatus View in CoL species group in those works.

Craugastor anciano View in CoL (E) (Savage, McCranie & Wilson 1988, 53)

Craugastor aurilegulus View in CoL (E) (Savage, McCranie & Wilson 1988, 50)

Craugastor charadra View in CoL (Campbell & Savage 2000, 247)

Craugastor emleni View in CoL (E) (Dunn 1932, 97). Solís et al. (2014) erroneously listed Dunn & Emlen (1932) as the authors of this patronym honoring Emlen. Dunn (1932) coined Eleutherodactylus ranoides emleni as a replacement name for the preoccupied E. r. nubicola of Dunn & Emlen (1932).

Craugastor laevissimus View in CoL (Werner 1896, 349)

Craugastor megacephalus View in CoL (Cope 1875, 110)

Craugastor merendonensis View in CoL (E) (K. Schmidt 1933, 17)

Craugastor olanchano View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1999, 518)

Craugastor pechorum View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1999, 515)

Craugastor (Craugastor) rhodopis View in CoL species series (2 species). The following two species were included in the C. bransfordii View in CoL and C. rhodopis View in CoL species groups in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007).

Craugastor lauraster View in CoL (Savage, McCranie & Espinal 1996, 366)

Craugastor loki View in CoL (Shannon & Werler 1955, 370). Streicher et al. (2014) questioned the published identity of the single Honduran specimen of this form remaining in museums, even though those authors did not examine the specimen in question. I remain confident in my identification of that specimen as C. loki View in CoL (see McCranie in McCranie & Wilson 2002).

Craugastor (Craugastor) View in CoL species series incertae sedis (6 species, 1 endemic species). Padial et al. (2014a) could not assign the following species to a series, but its members correspond to the C. gollmeri View in CoL species group in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007).

Craugastor chac View in CoL (Savage 1987, 31)

Craugastor coffeus View in CoL (E) (McCranie & Köhler 1999, 84)

Craugastor laticeps View in CoL (A.H.A. Duméril 1853, 178). It appears that this nominal form is a complex with at least two unnamed species occurring in Honduras. One of those populations involves the Atlántida population listed in McCranie (2006, amphibian specimen list) and another involves a recently discovered population in Santa Bárbara. Tissues of those populations, and others of this series, are available for study.

Craugastor mimus View in CoL (Taylor 1955, 517)

Craugastor noblei View in CoL (Barbour & Dunn 1921, 161)

Craugastor rostralis View in CoL (Werner 1896, 350). This nominal form likely represents more than one species in Honduras, with those from Atlántida and Yoro probably representing a new species.

Subgenus Hylactophryne Lynch 1968 , 511 (1 species, 1 endemic species). The following species was included in the C. alfredi View in CoL species group in the companion publications McCranie (2006) and McCranie & Castañeda (2007). Craugastor cyanochthebius View in CoL (E) McCranie & Smith 2006, 185
