Type species: Phormosoma placenta Thomson, 1872 , by original designation.

Diagnosis. Phormosomatidae with secondary plates of adoral ambulacra abutting the adradial suture, and large sunken areoles of primary tubercles not limited to outer region on oral surface.

Remarks. There are 4 assigned species, all Recent ( Table 6 View TABLE 6 ).
