Genus Hancockcandonopsis View in CoL gen. nov.

Diagnosis. Shell varying in shape: elongated to reniform, subtriangular or trapezoidal. Surface of the carapace smooth. A1 6- or 7-segmented. Male A2 with developed sexual bristles. Md palp with very short terminal segment. Terminal segment of Mxl-palp rectangular. Prehensile palps of L5 elongated, almost symmetrical and with one of the subapical structures more strongly developed than the other. L6 with or without basal seta (d1), and 5- segmented. L7 with all three basal setae present, e-seta and f-seta present or absent, g-seta present; terminal segment with h3-seta distally hooked. UR without posterior seta, while anterior seta and both claws welldeveloped. Genital lobe rounded. Hemipenis with a-lobe centrally positioned and sometimes with laterally projecting, additional a’-lobe. Zenker organ with 5+2 whorls of spines.

Type species: Hancockcandonopsis inachos sp. nov.

Other species: Hancockcandonopsis io sp. nov., Hancockcandonopsis tamworthi sp. nov..

Etymology. The genus is named after Dr Peter Hancock from Eco Logical Australia (New South Wales) as a friendly acknowledgment of his supply of new ostracod taxa from Australia for many years.
