Galium elongatum C.Presl, Delic. View in CoL Prag.: 119(–120). 1822. [July 1822]
≡ Galium palustre L. var. elongatum (C.Presl) Rchb.f., Icon. Fl. Germ. Helv. 17: 95. 1854–1855. [1855 publ. 1854–1855] ≡ * Galium palustre L. subsp. elongatum (C.Presl) Arcang., Comp. Fl. Ital. : 312.1882. [January–April 1882]
Ind. Loc.:—“Hab. in humidis ad rivulos Panormi Siciliae” [after typification]. SIC
Type (lectotype designated by Ehrendorfer & Schonbeck-Temesy in Davis 1982: 784):— ITALY. in humidis ad rivulos Panormi Siciliae , s.d., C . Presl s.n. ( PR) .
Note:—Most floras admit the name Galium palustre L. subsp. elongatum (C.Presl) Lange, Fl. Dan. [Oeder] 16(47): 4. 1869. [after 20 March 1869]. However, the asterisk used to denotes the rank by Lange cannot be interpreted as a subspecies. At pag. 4 of “Flora Danica” 16(46), 1867, concerning Scirpus rufus * bifolius , it is stated that “ forsan non nisi hujus subspecies habenda erit ” [“maybe it could represent a subspecies”]. In other words, this name is accepted to a rank different from subspecies. Indeed, at pag. 5 of “Flora Danica” 16(48), 1871, Plantago ( major ) * intermedia is reported, with a reference to the previously published P. major * intermedia , appearing at pag. 120 of the “Haandbog i den danske flora” third edition, in 1864. At pag. XVIII of the same flora, the author states that asterisks denote “ Udmaerkede Varieteter ” [“excellent varieties”].
