Ichneumon ocellus Tosquinet, 1903: 31 , ♀.

Holotype: ♀ “ Java, Mt. Tengger, 4000 Fuss ” (Bruxelles), type not studied.

Aglaojoppa formosana Uchida, 1925: 453 , synonymized by Townes et al. (1961: 380).

Description: ♀: Body length 11‒13 mm. Flagellum with 38‒39 flagellomeres, slightly lanceolate; 1 st flagellomere 2.1‒2.3× longer than wide, 2 nd flagellomere 2.0‒2.1× longer than wide, combined length 0.59‒0.62× eye length; widest flagellomeres 1.3‒1.4× wider than long. Temple narrow, strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.0× and OOD 0.9× ocellar diameter. Frons smooth ventrally, punctate dorsally. Face with dense punctures, smooth; clypeus with dense punctures, smooth, apical margin slightly rounded, sharp. Gena with dense punctures ventrally, 0.7× wider than eye. MI 0.6‒0.7.

Mesosoma with grey hairs. Notaulus strongly impressed in frontal ¼ of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate, partly rugose-punctate, but shining. Mesopleuron densely punctate, speculum smooth; metapleuron densely punctate; juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum slightly elevated, 1.3× wider than long, without lateral carina, with scattered or rather dense punctures.Area superomedia hexagonal or heart-shaped, as long as wide, rugose; anterior transversal carina caudal to its middle. Hind coxa with dense punctures, with or without small scopa. Hind femur 3.7‒3.8× longer than wide, densely punctate. 3 rd mid tarsomere 1.5‒1.6× longer than wide.

Areolet almost quadrangular, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1× their width; vein 2m-cu in its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 3× its width.

Postpetiolus strongly widened; lateral field 1.0× as wide as the median one, punctate; median field with dense punctures and some longitudinal rugae. 2 nd tergite 1.35× wider than long. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed, with ridges. Thyridium large, almost transverse, 1.1‒1.3× wider than the interval. 2 nd to 3 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate, ± striate-punctate medially. 7 th tergite 2× wider than long. Seen from dorsal, ovipositor sheath c. 0.2× as long as 7 th tergite.

Color: Black. Stripes on flagellomeres 8‒14/16, palps, base of mandible, side of clypeus, wide orbits (except black malar space), collare and upper margin of pronotum, spot on propleuron, two paramedian longitudinal stripes on mesoscutum, subtegular ridge, frontal and ventral spots on mesopleuron, lateral stripes on scutellum, postscutellum, upper division of metapleuron, area dentipara, narrow apical bands on all tergites (wider, but medially narrowed on 1 st to 3 rd tergites), fore and mid coxae and trochanters, dorsal spot on hind coxa and hind trochanter ± ivory. Trochantelli, femora, tibiae and tarsi red; hind femur black in apical 0.2; hind tibia black in basal 0.1 and apical 0.2; hind tarsus entirely black. Wings hyaline; pterostogma brownish.

♂. Body length 10‒11 mm. Flagellum with 35‒36 flagellomeres; 1 st flagellomere 2.3× longer than wide. Tyloids on flagellomeres 8/9‒17/18, long-oval, maximally 0.7× as long as their flagellomere. Temple narrow, strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.0× ocellar diameter. Face with dense punctures, smooth; clypeus with dense punctures, smooth, apical margin slightly rounded, sharp. MI 0.5.

Mesosoma with grey hairs. Notaulus strongly impressed in frontal ¼ of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate, partly rugose-punctate, but shining. Mesopleuron densely punctate, speculum smooth; metapleuron densely punctate; juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum slightly elevated, wider than long, without lateral carina, with scattered or rather dense punctures. Area superomedia halfmoon- or heart-shaped, ± wider than long, rugose; anterior transversal carina caudal to its middle.Fore metatarsus without apical tooth. Hind femur 4.0‒4.1× longer than wide, densely punctate. Areolet almost quadrangular, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1× their width; vein 2m-cu in its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2‒3× its width. Median field of postpetiolus striate, with some punctures. 2 nd tergite 1.25‒1.30× wider than long. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed, with ridges. Thyridium large, transverse, 1.3× wider than the interval. 2 nd to 4 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate, 2 nd and 3 rd tergites striatepunctate medially.

Color: Black. Flagellum ± reddish-brown ventrally, withb ivory stripes on flagellomeres 12/13‒17/18. Clypeus and face entirely and scape ventrally ivory. Mid tarsus ± infscuate. Wings sometimes slightly infuscate. Color otherwise as described for the ♀.

Remarks: We have not seen Japanese material of this species. For the description above we therefore used Chinese specimens.

Distribution: Widespread in the Oriental region, and recorded from Amamioshima Is. (Uchida 1956) and Okinawajima Is. ( Uchida 1925).
