Description: ♀: Body length 14.5 mm. Flagellum lanceolate, with 43 flagellomeres, 1 st flagellomere (without anellus) 2.2× longer than wide; 2 nd flagellomere 1.9× longer than wide, combined length c.0.63× eye length, 11 th flagellomere square, flagellum beyond middle attenuated and widened, widest flagellomeres c.2.0× wider than long. Temple moderately and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.6× and OOD 1.3× ocellar diameter. Frons transversely rugose-punctate. Face densely punctate, medially with granulation, laterally smooth. Clypeus with rather dense punctures, smooth. MI 0.8. Gena laterally 0.9× as wide as eye, with scattered punctures ventrally. Genal carina reaching the hypostomal carina far from the mandibular base.

Mesosoma covered with pale hairs. Notaulus slightly impressed, in frontal 1/5 of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum punctate, finely granulate, but shining. Mesopleuron and metapleuron with coarse punctures, speculum large, smooth and shining; juxtacoxal carina strong. Scutellum slightly elevated, a little longer than wide, with lateral carina in basal 0.3, with scattered punctures. Propodeum rounded, area superomedia about hexagonal, as long as wide, finely rugose. Area externa finely granulate, partly punctate. Hind coxa densely rugose-punctate, without scopa. Hind femur slender, 4.7× longer than wide, with scattered punctures in ventral third. 3 rd mid tarsomere c. 1.7× longer than wide. Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 3× their width; vein 2m-cu in its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 3× its width.

Metasoma strongly oxypygous. Lateral field of postpetiolus punctate, c.0.85× as wide as median field, the latter with coarse longitudinal rugae and some punctures. 2 nd tergite as long as wide. Thyridium slightly, 1.5× wider than the interval, interval as wide as the median field of postpetiolus. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites coarsely and densely punctate and strongly aciculate medially, 4 th tergite punctate and finely rugose basally, following tergites with almost smooth surface. 7 th tergite c.1.7× wider than long. Seen from dorsal ovipositor sheath 0.5× as long as 7 th tergite.

Color: Black, metasoma with slightly bluish shine. Stripes on flagellomeres 9‒14, palps in part, facial orbit, frontal orbit confluent with triangular vertical spot, ventral half of outer orbit, collare and upper margin of pronotum, two short paramedian stripes on mesoscutum, subtegular ridge, a small frontal and small posteroventral spot of mesopleuron, apical spot of scutellum, small spot in caudal half of area dentipara, posterolateral spots on 1 st to 6 th tergites, ventral spots on all coxae, apical spots on all femora and subbasal stripes or rings on all tibiae, and rings of all hind tarsomeres ivory. Wings almost hyaline, pterostigma pale brown.

♂: Body length 19 mm. Flagellum with 46 flagellomeres, 1 st flagellomere 2.4× longer than wide. Tyloids on flagellomeres 8‒19, long-oval to linear, centrally deposited, 0.8× as long as the flagellomeres. Temple strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.3× and OOD 1.1× ocellar diameter. Frons transversely rugose. Face and clypeus densely punctate. Gena with rather dense punctures, c.0.8× as wide as eye. MI 0.3.

Notaulus weakly impressed in frontal 1/5 of mesoscutum. Scutellum moderately elevated, slightly longer than wide, with lateral carina in basal 1/3, with dense punctures. Propodeum rounded. Area superomedia elevated, sickleshaped, c.2.0× wider than long, with smooth surface; anterior transversal carina in the middle. Area externa partly punctate, finely granulate. Fore metatarsus with strong apical tooth. Hind femur 4.5× longer than wide. Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 3× their width; vein 2m-cu in its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 3× its width.

Lateral field of postpetiolus c.0.9× as wide as median field, punctate, median field with coarse longitudinal rugae. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed. Thyridium transverse, c.1.5× as wide as the interval. 2 nd tergite 1.15× longer than wide. 2 nd to 5 th tergites densely punctate, 2 nd and 3 rd tergite strongly aciculate medially; 4 th and 5 th tergite with fine aciculation in basal half.

Color: Black. Metasoma with slight bluish tint. Palps, mandible except teeth, labrum, clypeus and face, frontal orbit, triangular spot on vertex, lower outer orbit, ventral scapus, collare and upper margin of pronotum, tegula, subtegular ridge, small frontal spot and large ventral spot on mesopleuron, apical 2/3 of scutellum, small spot on area dentipara, posterolateral spots on 1 st to 6 th tergites, frontal spots on fore and mid coxae, apico-ventral spot and dorsal spot on hind coxa, fore and mid femora and tibiae frontally, apical stripe on hind femur, subbasal rings of all tibiae and rings on 1 st to 3 rd hind tarsomeres ivory. Wings hyaline, pterostigma brownish.

Remarks: Ichneumon centummaculatus Christ, 1791 had been transferred to Aglaojoppa by Rasnitsyn (1981: 121) which is a synonym of Coelichneumon in our opinion (see above). We therefore include this species in Coelichneumon again (stat. rev).

The Japanese specimens of C. centummaculatus differ slightly from the European material by their less extended ivory coloration: postscutellum usually black, fore and mid tarsomere often without external ivory stripes, but color pattern otherwise typical.

Distribution: Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Sado Is. and Shikoku) (Uchida 1924, 1925, 1926, 1935, Ohmori 1959, Nakaya 1998). This species has a transpalaearctic distribution.
