Subgenus Thovana Gray, 1847 (ex Leach MS)
Type species: Pholas oblongata Say, 1822 (= Pholas campechiensis Gmelin, 1791 ), by monotypy.
Distribution: Western Atlantic.
R e m a r k s: This subgenus includes P h o l a s chiloensis Molina, 1782 from southeastern Pacific; P. bissauensis Cosel and Haga , in Cosel and Gofas, 2018 from West Africa and P. campechiensis Gmelin, 1791 from western Atlantic. Thovana differs from Pholas s. s. by having a more rounded anterior end and nuclei of the two halves of the protoplax more anterocentrally located ( Coan and Valentich-Scott 2012).
