Type Locality. Guyana, Region IX, Ziida Karisihizi (lake), nr Kusad Mts. , large vegetated marsh, 2°49.793ʹ N, 59°48.361ʹ W, 123 m. GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. This species is unique in the shape of the male genitalia. The male median lobe in lateral aspect is medially expanded and bent, with the apex slender and straight apically ( Fig. 12 View Figs ). In ventral aspect, the median lobe is broad basally, abruptly narrow sub-basally and thereafter with the margin evenly curved to the narrowly bifid apex ( Fig. 13 View Figs ). The lateral lobe is also characteristic with the apex deeply bifid, the ventral lobe apically broadly narrowed, and the dorsal lobe apically spinous in lateral aspect ( Fig. 14 View Figs ). The male genitalia are not especially similar to any other species. The head and pronotum are evenly yellow, and the elytron is evenly orange without maculae. Specimens are moderately large for the genus (TL = 1.7–1.8 mm). The male median lobe is most similar to that of Desmopachria nitida Babington , but that species has the apex sinuate ( Fig. 53 View Figs ) instead of straight ( Fig. 12 View Figs ).

Description. Measurements: TL = 1.7–1.8 mm, GW = 1.1–1.2 mm, HW = 0.6 mm, EW = 0.3 mm, TL/GW = 1.5, HW/EW = 2.0. Coloration: Head and pronotum yellow. Elytron orange, somewhat darker than pronotum. Ventral surface orange, somewhat lighter yellow-orange on head appendages, prosternum, and pro- and mesolegs. Male genitalia: Male median lobe in lateral aspect slender, elongate curved, apical portion broadly angulate medially, apically slender with apex narrowly rounded ( Fig. 12 View Figs ). Median lobe in ventral aspect broadly expanded basally, apically with lateral margins broadly convergent to apex comprised of slender fork ( Fig. 13 View Figs ). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect moderately slender, apically deeply divided into 2 long rami, ventral ramus apically rounded, somewhat expanded; dorsal ramus spinous, slender, apically sharply pointed ( Fig. 14 View Figs ); in ventral aspect slender, apices of rami narrowly rounded.

Variation. There is little variation in coloration or other features among the specimens examined.

Etymology. This species is named gyrationi after an unbelievable dance move as well as the whirling swimming behavior of members of Desmopachria .

Distribution. This species is known only from southwestern Guyana ( Fig. 69 View Figs ).

Habitat. Specimens were collected from “large side pools of main river,” a “marshy area,” a “vegetated pond,” a “stagnant vegetated creek,” a “heavily vegetated marsh,” “creek margins,” a “large vegated marsh,” and a “large shallow lagoon/marsh.”
