Barydesmus pococki ( Brölemann, 1911) new combination

Platyrhacus stenopterus (nec P. stenopterus Brölemann, 1905 ): Pocock 1909: 145, Pl. X figs 8, 8a–c (description). Platyrrhacus pococki Brölemann, 1911: 14 (new name; description).

Nyssodesmus pococki: Chamberlin 1922: 40 (combination).

Platyrhacus (Tirodesmus) pococki: Attems 1938: 240 , fig. 265 (combination).

Types : Two ♀ syntypes from Costa Rica: Cuesta del Tablazo, 1600 m; VI-1905. Material originally deposited at the MNHN, we could not confirm its current state; it is not listed in their on-line database.

Distribution: Costa Rica.

Comments: Pocock (1909) presented a description of Platyrhacus stenopterus Brölemann, 1905 based on two males and one female from Costa Rica, pointing out some morphological differences. Pocock, probably thinking they represented a different species, even designated a male type among the studied series, perhaps at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, but he did not propose a new name. A few years later Brölemann (1911), based on Pocock's description and direct examination of two further females, named P. pococki as a new species different from P. stenopterus . The type series for Barydesmus pococki must be the two females studied by Brölemann (1911).
