Diagnosis. Carapace with one or two small to moderately large middorsal teeth (size of teeth unequal or subequal); anterior tooth, if present, usually epigastric in position (except for M. robusta ); branchial carina absent. Anterior four abdominal pleura rounded. Dactyli of fourth and fifth pereopods subspatulate or spatulate, always naked on margins.
Composition. Metacrangon acclivis , M. asiaticus , M. australis , M. clevai n. sp., M. cornuta , M. holthuisi , M. karubar n. sp., M. laevis , M. longirostris , M. miyakei , M. monodon , M. munita , M. nipponensis , M. obliqua n. sp., M. proxima , M. poorei , M. richardsoni , M. robusta , M. sinensis , M. spinirostris , M. trigonorostris , M. tropis n. sp., M. tsugaruensis n. sp., and M. variabilis .
Remarks. As noted above, the monophyly of this informal species group is unclear, as no autapomorphic characters could be identified.
