Type material. Holotype male (BDN No. 1181), CHINA: Hainan Province, Wanning County, Diaoluo Town (19°4΄ N, 110° 28΄ E), 1499 m a.s.l., light trap, 20.v.1988, Xinhua Wang.

Diagnostic characters. The species can be separated from other East Asian members of the genus by having hairy eyes, 11 flagellomeres, AR c. 0.6, superior volsella hooked and absence of inferior volsella. Etymology. The specific name refers to the Hainan Province of China, where from the type material was collected.

Description. Male imago (n = 1).

Total length 1.17mm. Wing length 0.68 mm. Total length / wing length 1.70, Wing length / length of profemur 2.52.

Coloration: Head yellowish brown. Antenna and palpomere yellow. Thorax brown. Abdominal segments pale yellow. Legs yellowish brown. Wings nearly hyaline with pale yellow clava.

Head. Eyes hairy. Antenna with 11 flagellomeres; ultimate flagellomere 163 µm long, apical sensilla chaetica extending slightly back from apex; antenna apically expanded, maximum width 25 µm; AR: 0.6. Clypeus with 8 setae. Tentorium 105 µm long. Stipes 75 µm long. Palpomeres length (in µm): 13, 15, 28, 58, 120. Palpomeres 2 and 3 ellipsoid, 4 rectangular, 5 long and slender; palpomere 5/ 3: 4.36.

Thorax. Dorsocentrals 9, prealars 2. Scutellum with 1 setae.

Wing ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 8 A). VR 1.80. C length 235 µm, C/ wing length 0.35. Cu length 300 µm. Cu/ wing length 0.44. Wing width/ wing length 0.38. C with 13 setae.

Legs. Fore trochanter with keel. Spur of fore tibia 25 µm and 15 µm long, spurs of mid tibia 23 µm long, of hind tibia 20 µm and 25 µm long. Width at apex of fore tibia 23 µm, of mid tibia 23 µm, of hind tibia 28 µm. Hind tibial comb composed of 11 setae. Sensilla chaetica 4 on ta1 of P3. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 2.

Posterior margin straight, with many short setae, laterosternite IX without long seta. Superior and inferior volsella hooked. Transverse sternapodeme 45 µm long, without oral projections; coxapodeme 20 µm long, with basal projection; phallapodeme short, almost straight, 23 µm long, with basal projection. Gonocoxite 93 µm long with 4 setae apically. Gonostylus long and slender, 38 µm long; megaseta 5 µm long. HR 2.5, HV 3.1.

Female and immature stages. Unknown.
