Carineta fasciculata Germar, 1821 View in CoL

Cicada fasciculata Germar 1821: 97 View in CoL (S ã o Paulo, Brazil).

Carineta limpida Torres 1948: 121 View in CoL (Puerto Bemberg, Misiones, Argentina and Cufré, San José Department, Uruguay).

Remarks. Sanborn (2019a) was able to clarify the application of the taxon after locating the type specimen of Germar’s species. Carineta fasciculata was determined to be identical to Carineta limpida and the two were synonymized. Most previous references to Carineta fasciculata were determined to be Carineta bilineosa Walker, 1858 which was resurrected in Sanborn (2019a). Therefore, the reference to Carineta limpida in Ruffinelli (1970) represents Carineta fasciculata .

The type of Carineta fasciculata is deposited in the Zoological Museum, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, L’viv, Ukraine ( Sanborn 2019a). The allotype male from Cufré, Uruguay and the Argentine paratype female of Carineta limpida are deposited in the Museo de La Plata Entomological Collection with the holotype female from Argentina deposited in the Fundación Miguel Lillo, Tucumán, Argentina ( Marino de Remes Lenicov et al. 2015).

Distribution. After verifying the species concept ( Sanborn 2019a), the species has been reported from Misiones Province, Argentina, the states of S ã o Paulo and Santa Catarina, Brazil and southern Uruguay ( Metcalf 1963c; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013, 2019a; Sanborn & Heath 2014). The species is associated with the coastal states, provinces and departments between the region north of the Río de la Plata of Uruguay and S ã o Paulo, Brazil with an inland extension to Misiones Province Argentina. Ruffinelli (1970) reported an example of Carineta limpida from Cufré, San José in southern Uruguay (probably the allotype of Torres (1948)).
